Win a Boy

Well, you could spend the dollar... or you could climb into the vending machine itself and take your choice. And that is just what Robert Moore did today; you can read it at The Daily Mail.

This is all quite reminiscent of some most embarrassing situations my own mother had to face (by the creation of one family member, unnamed) of which include:

  • falling into the fountains at York Mall while reaching for the pennies at the bottom
  • getting his hand so stuck in a gumball machine that the store manager had to be called...

They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree --my best wishes to Jen :)

Well at the least the boy is okay. I still find it very humorous though. So did he get his stuffed toy?

Loving the name, Amy :P and thanks for those well-wishes/ pronouncements of doom.
Uh, Calvin, that was cryptic. What DO you mean?

I'd definately take the boy... then again, that may mean more publicity...:P And with that particular brother-in-law, one never knows when your whole family may be in the limelight (or perhaps due to our shared nephew, as you mentioned :)

blood is thicker than water, clearly a quote from the good ol' grade 11 book No Great Mischief

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree - that's a good thing - right???!!!

Sounds to me like that unnamed individual was simply exemplifying beyond-his-years Dutch industrialism. Quite honorable, I think. We all can understand how the gumball companies take advantage of a kid's craving and gouge the purses of the mothers. His mother was even more Dutch. What else could he do? For all you know, he perhaps was faking the accident, and hoping the manager would give him a free gumball out of sympathy.

And as for the pools - every parent is proud of a child who, at an early age, shows a desire for the manly sport of fishing.

Just a few conjectures.

Not telling;
Recognizing the entirely objective standpoint from which you raise your conjectures, I do recognize the many valid arguments you point out. However, the Dutch-industrialism theory is out; you make the unnamed boy into a beggar, which is completely anti-thetical to the Dutch mindset! Then again, it is a more palatable theory than, ahem, theft :S
